RV campgrounds: fit, hookups and stay limits
Choose an RV campsite by access, dimensions, hookups and the rules for your stay. Verify the specific site and arrival route before booking. Full hookups supply services; they do not remove length limits, quiet hours, maintenance needs or the booking’s departure date.
Check services individually
| Site description | Confirm with the operator |
|---|---|
| Full hookups | Electrical service, potable-water point and sewer connection at the site |
| Water and electric | Waste capacity and dump access |
| Electric only | Water supply and waste arrangements |
| No hookups | Available water, waste space and usable energy |
For an assumed 40 gallons available fresh water at 10 gallons daily use, the arithmetic gives four days before reserve. If usable energy is 1,200 Wh and consumption is 400 Wh daily, the energy budget gives three days without recharge. The shorter result limits this example; another household or rig can have a different limit.
Permission and fees need their own check
BLM’s New Mexico guidance uses a 14-day dispersed-camping limit in a 28-day period, subject to the area’s conditions. Do not apply that rule to every public-land site. A parking lot or rest area also needs its own permission.
An interagency entrance pass does not automatically pay campground charges. Compare the actual reservation total, discount eligibility and any separate service fees.
Check the limiting service before paying for the stay
A reservation can be unsuitable even when its advertised site length appears sufficient. Confirm entry access, deployed clearance and the specific electrical, water and waste arrangements.
For the off-grid example, energy runs out sooner than fresh water under the stated assumptions. That means another night needs a charging plan or lower consumption, rather than simply another water container.
Public-land stay limits and entrance fees answer different questions. Record the rules of the particular area, including any current restrictions, and the actual campground charge for the intended dates.
An entrance pass is not proof of a paid campsite reservation. Before committing, compare the arrival and departure conditions with the travel route and the rig’s setup needs; a booking confirmation does not remove the rig’s physical limits.
