RV road limits: Zion, Glacier and Yosemite

Check road access separately from campsite fit. Zion’s restrictions cover an entire highway segment, Glacier counts bumpers and mirrors, and Yosemite has road-specific RV limits. A reservation cannot make an oversized vehicle eligible for a restricted road; measure mirrors and all carried attachments.

Zion: any exceeded dimension rules out the highway segment

Zion’s current large-vehicle guidance applies between Canyon Junction and the East Entrance, not just inside the tunnel. Measurements include mirrors, tires and attachments. Vehicles exceeding any listed limit must use another route.

Height11 ft 4 in11 ft 4 inCompare actual travel height with the posted ceiling before selecting this route. A short vehicle can still be too tall.

A measured eight-foot width is 96 inches; the listed 7 ft 10 in is 94 inches. That vehicle exceeds the width cap by two inches even if length, height and weight qualify. The South Entrance can still provide access to permitted destinations, but not onward travel beyond Canyon Junction on this highway.

Glacier: a short body can still fail the mirror-width test

Going-to-the-Sun Road’s guidance prohibits vehicles and combinations longer than 21 feet including bumpers or wider than eight feet including mirrors between Avalanche Creek and Rising Sun. It also warns that vehicles over ten feet high may encounter difficulty west of Logan Pass to the Loop because of overhangs.

Yosemite and Rocky Mountain: keep road and campsite rules apart

Yosemite permits only RVs 30 feet or shorter past Sentinel Dome or at Glacier Point. It identifies additional restrictions on Glacier Point, Mariposa Grove and Hetch Hetchy roads. Confirm the specific route and current closures.

Rocky Mountain’s campground limits are 30 feet at Aspenglen and Timber Creek, 35 at Glacier Basin and 40 at Moraine Park; Longs Peak is tent-only. These campsite numbers are not road-clearance approvals.

Carry an allowed alternative route and verify that it also fits the RV. Do not rely on a historic tunnel escort procedure or a navigation app to override current signs and park restrictions.
