Dometic RM3762 and RM3962: AUTO and gas lockouts
On Dometic RM3762 and RM3962 refrigerators, AUTO can select AC electricity or propane. The optional temporary gas lockout requires its installation connection and works only in AUTO. Do not assume AUTO alone guarantees that the burner is off at a fuel stop, or confuse that timed delay with an ignition lockout.
The display distinguishes two LP conditions
| Indication | Meaning in that manual |
|---|---|
| AUTO indicator | AUTO using AC |
| AUTO and LP dots | AUTO using LP gas |
| AUTO with slowly flashing LP indicator | Temporary gas lockout when the feature is installed |
| LP message alternating with temperature | LP ignition-operation lockout |
| 60 | Fresh-food temperature above the display measurement range |
The Dometic operating instructions give a 15-minute delay after engine shutoff for the installed alternator-connected feature. They warn that it does not function with AUTO off and require outside-vented LP appliances to be shut off near a gasoline pump. A delay is not a route-carriage exemption or proof the actual feature is fitted.
Do not turn a purge allowance into unlimited restarts
For air after storage or refilling, the manual describes ON/OFF attempts with a 45-second ignition period and a limited three-to-four repetition allowance. If attempts fail, it calls for checking supply and then switching off and obtaining service if the problem persists. Do not keep resetting, open gas lines or apply this sequence during a suspected leak.
The same manual directs electric operation above 5,500 feet because propane cooling performance and burner operation can suffer. Check the actual revision, supply and level requirements for your unit rather than treating a control-voltage minimum as a healthy battery target.
Read the owner’s measurements before choosing a replacement
In an original June 2026 owner post, a 2017 International 27FB owner reported afternoon refrigerator readings in the low 50s during mid-80s weather, despite fans. The owner was considering a Vitrifrigo VT96FR and listed a 600-Ah lithium bank and 720 W solar.
That is one owner’s report, not a controlled test or proof that the proposed replacement fits. Against FDA’s 40°F refrigerator guidance, an assumed 52°F reading is 12°F higher. Protect food and verify temperatures rather than waiting for a purchase decision.
Use refrigerator replacement and energy checks and cooling-fault guidance. Confirm cabinet and entry-path dimensions, retention, ventilation and qualified gas/electrical work for any conversion.
