MaxxFan Deluxe: fit, thermostat and closed-lid use
A MaxxFan Deluxe must fit the roof opening, roof thickness and rear clearance in its exact installation guide. Its thermostat controls the fan, not air conditioning. The cited Deluxe manual expressly permits ceiling-fan circulation with the lid closed, so a turning fan beneath a closed lid is not automatically a fault.
Measure behind the flange as well as through the roof
The August 2017 Deluxe guide, P/N 11D90001K, specifies a 14-by-14-inch opening, roof thickness from 1⅛ to 6½ inches, and at least eight inches behind the rear outer flange edge. Measure the actual obstruction clearance before choosing a replacement.
| Item | Requirement |
|---|---|
| Roof opening | 14 × 14 inches |
| Roof thickness | 1⅛–6½ inches |
| Rear clearance | At least 8 inches behind the flange’s outer rear edge |
| Electrical circuit | 12 V, at least 5 A capacity |
A five-amp circuit requirement does not mean the fan continuously consumes five amps at every speed. For example, budgeting five amps for eight hours reserves 40 Ah; it is a conservative assumed allowance rather than a measured runtime test or a maker-published speed curve.
The initial thermostat setting is not the cabin temperature
The guide starts the automatic thermostat setting at 78°F after power is removed and restored. Where the identified controls support one-degree adjustment, moving from 78°F to 72°F requires six downward changes. That sets a target; outdoor air and available airflow still determine whether the interior cools.
Use the control instructions for the specific manual or powered lid version. Do not assume every Deluxe has the same remote or rain-sensor functions. During travel, the cited guide calls for the lid fully open or fully closed, rather than partly open.
Closed-lid circulation is a documented Deluxe mode
The manual’s Ceiling Fan mode allows interior circulation with the lid closed. That differs from Timberleaf’s general troubleshooting checklist, which says MaxxFans will not operate with the lid closed. Use the identified Deluxe instructions to resolve that conflict rather than treating the general checklist as a fault specification for this model.
Closed-lid circulation does not exhaust humid air. Open the lid and provide a suitable replacement-air path when ventilation is the task, subject to the actual operating conditions and instructions.
Protect the screen, roof and plastic housing
Keep the insect screen installed during operation. The guide calls for mild soap and water and excludes harsh cleaning chemicals; isolate power before approved cleaning. Installation sealant must be compatible with both the roof and the fan material rather than chosen only by its description as waterproof.
For a failed motor, control board or intermittent supply, identify the exact part and obtain qualified testing. Do not buy a board from another fan’s symptoms or expose energized wiring. Continue with roof air-conditioning limits when ventilation cannot meet the cooling need.
