Dometic Penguin II: model-specific electrical ratings
For a Penguin II, use the complete model suffix before reading the electrical table. Dometic’s2016 manual lists 651815.80X at 13.1 A compressor rated load plus 2.6 A fan rated load;651815.30X has different entries.
The locked-rotor column is separate. It is not a measured startup waveform, and the Penguin name alone does not identify a generator requirement.
The suffix changes the running-current sum
| Model | Compressor rated | Fan rated | Compressor locked rotor |
|---|---|---|---|
| 651815.80X | 13.1 | 2.6 | 63.0 |
| 651815.30X | 12.5 | 3.5 | 61.0 |
The manufacturer installation document identifies these rows separately. Adding the rated compressor and fan values gives 15.7 A for the.80X example and 16.0 A for the.30X. A larger compressor entry does not necessarily mean the larger combined running sum.
Generator guidance has a scope
That manual gives general 3.5 kW/5 kW guidance for one/two units and expressly says to consider total RV power use, altitude and maintenance. Other loads still matter. Do not turn the 63 A locked-rotor entry into a claimed running load or multiply it by voltage and call the result a mandatory generator size.
When gathering information for an installer, record the roof unit and the indoor control or air-distribution assembly. A replacement has to work with both. Use the wider air-conditioning selection guide for the supply and installation questions, and have qualified service assess roof, mains and refrigerant work.
A repair quote is evidence of one job
A 2015 Canyon Star owner in the Penguin failure discussion reported a 2018 quote of$1,200 for the unit and$300 labor. The$1,500 sum describes that old quote, not today’s installed price. It says nothing about a fleet failure rate.
Ask a current repairer to itemize diagnosis, the proposed unit, compatible controls and installation. Comparing two totals without those details can hide a different scope of work. Keep the old quote’s date attached whenever using it as a reference.
