New or used RV: compare the actual units

Compare a new and used RV by the actual purchase total, condition, equipment and coverage available to you. Neither new condition nor a previous owner guarantees that defects are resolved. Inspect both units and price the work and uncertainty that remain.

Used asking prices do not automatically sit below new offers

In an October 18, 2026 check, Shoeder’s advertised a new 2026 Jay Flight SLX 175BH, stock JY2659, at $18,985. Its disclaimer excludes taxes, title/licensing and several dealer/destination charges.

A Blue Compass Danville listing on RVUSA, stock UT260743, advertised a used unit as a 2024 Jay Flight SLX 175BH at $24,115. Confirm the actual model year and VIN with the seller. These are advertisements from different locations and configurations, not verified sale prices or complete comparable quotes.

The used advertisement is $5,130 higher in this pair. That difference proves neither that the new unit is the better purchase nor that used RVs cost more. Obtain matched written totals and inspections; do not infer a universal depreciation percentage from two listings.

Warranty eligibility can differ even within one brand

Jayco’s FAQ says its two-/three-year coach warranties are non-transferable, while an unexpired motorhome chassis warranty can transfer. Other makers have different provisions. Ask which specific coverage you receive, when it started and what is excluded.

Condition and repair scope belong beside the price

Ask for service and damage records and arrange the agreed inspection on either unit. A new RV can have transport damage; a used one can have unresolved faults. A year label alone does not establish tire condition, roof integrity or appliance operation.

Compare planned outlay after inspections, transport and fees. Do not assume a two-to-four-year-old RV is the best value or that a first season automatically resolves defects. Use the inspection guide and verify new-unit operation at delivery.
