RV shows, dealers and marketplaces: how to compare
Use an RV show, dealer lot or marketplace to find candidates, then compare the exact units, inspection access and written purchase totals. A show-special sign does not prove the lowest price, and a private listing does not establish either the best value or the absence of legal rights.
A large show is useful for comparison, not proof of a discount
PRVCA’s September 10, 2026 preview described nearly 1,500 RVs for its Hershey show. That scale can help compare layouts in one visit. It does not establish a standard percentage off MSRP or a dealer’s acquisition cost.
Shortlist the exact floorplan and equipment, then ask whether the displayed unit or another stock unit would be delivered. Record the seller and stock number. Confirm what can be demonstrated and arrange unavailable operating tests separately.
| Channel | Question to resolve |
|---|---|
| Show | Which dealer and exact unit, and what does the offer include? |
| Dealer lot | Which inspection and delivery work, and which service arrangements? |
| Private listing | Who owns it, what is its condition and how will title/payoff be handled? |
| Consignment | Who has selling authority and which party handles payment and repairs? |
A lower advertised price can have a higher total
For assumed offers, a $30,000 unit plus $2,000 required dealer charges totals $32,000 before government charges. A $31,000 alternative with $500 required charges totals $31,500. The second is $500 lower before any remaining differences in tax, transport, equipment or condition.
The FTC’s vehicle-shopping guidance recommends confirming availability and a written out-the-door price before visiting. Compare discount qualifications and optional products separately.
Keep the buying safeguards regardless of venue
Check seller authority, ownership documents, liens and the actual unit’s condition. Do not assume dealer preparation takes a standard two hours or that an owner’s description proves the repair history. Ask for the inspection record and arrange an independent assessment where appropriate.
Use the quote comparison and inspection scope before committing. A venue deadline does not replace those checks.
