Grand Design warranty: 1, 3 and 5 year coverage
Grand Design’s towable warranty program separates one-year base, three-year structural and five-year frame coverage. Those are different scopes running from the original purchase date, not eight or nine years of combined coverage. Confirm the applicable document and transfer status for the particular VIN.
Transfer wording needs a VIN-specific answer
The 1-3-5 announcement says all three warranties transfer to later owners within the original periods and describes retroactive treatment from model year 2020. The current manual directory labels its linked towable warranty files “Transferable.”
However, the linked June 25, 2024 frame document still says “not assignable.” Preserve both the announcement and the issued warranty, and request written confirmation of the coverage recorded for a used unit. Do not infer a new five-year period when ownership changes.
| Layer | Stated period | Question to resolve |
|---|---|---|
| Base | One year | Is the failed part or labor within the base scope? |
| Structural | Three years | Is the affected assembly included, and is the cause excluded? |
| Frame | Five years; stated model-year eligibility | Is it a covered main-frame component rather than a separately excluded part? |
An ownership transfer does not restart the clock
For an assumed original purchase on October 18, 2024 and resale on October 18, 2026, two years have elapsed. On the stated periods, the base year has passed, while the three- and five-year periods would have about one and three years left, subject to eligibility and exclusions. This is a timeline example, not confirmation of a specific claim.
The frame document describes main rails, outriggers, cross-members, upper-deck frame and qualifying attached components. A five-year frame promise does not automatically cover every axle, body or appliance repair. Keep inspection findings, service records and dated communications.
The directory separately lists motorized warranty information. Do not apply the towable program to a Lineage motorhome without its own document.
