Open Range floorplan and regional load choices
Compare Open Range by the exact model year, floorplan and regional version. Colt 20DB and 20DB West share a layout name but have different published water and hitch figures. Range Lite, Roamer and Open Range 3X also require their own weight labels; “Light Duty” does not establish compatibility with a particular pickup.
Colt 20DB: the regional distinction changes the load
| Item | 20DB | 20DB West |
|---|---|---|
| UVW | 4,270 lb | 4,210 lb |
| Dry hitch | 425 lb | 535 lb |
| Published CCC | 1,730 lb | 1,790 lb |
| GVWR | 6,000 lb | 6,000 lb |
| Fresh tank | 52 gal | 84 gal |
The 20DB sheet and West sheet describe separate versions. West starts 60 lb lighter yet lists 110 lb more dry hitch weight. A lower total unloaded weight does not prove a lower demand on the tow vehicle.
Thirty-two additional gallons weigh about 267 lb. Full fresh water is about 434 lb on the 52-gallon version and 701 lb on West. Against the published CCC figures, that leaves about 1,296 versus 1,089 lb for other additions counted against the respective allowances.
Open Range 3X393TBR is a fifth-wheel decision
The 2027 393TBR sheet lists 15,575 lb UVW, 17,700 lb GVWR, 2,125 lb CCC and 2,860 lb dry hitch weight. It gives 43 ft 6 in pin-to-bumper length and 102-inch width. The loaded pin can differ from the published dry figure.
Confirm truck payload after occupants, hitch and other cargo, then measure loaded axle and pin demands. A destination or travel-trailer coupler cannot use a fifth-wheel hitch, and a truck’s headline towing maximum cannot establish remaining rear-axle capacity.
Do not treat brochure arithmetic as a new rating
If an older brochure’s UVW plus CCC does not match its GVWR, request the correct unit label and a written explanation. Do not publish the larger subtraction as extra carrying capacity. For Range LiteLW, Range Lite and Roamer alternatives, compare the same year’s configuration and installed options.
