Highland Ridge and Open Range identification

Match Highland Ridge, Open Range and Mesa Ridge paperwork by VIN and model year. Jayco acquired Open Range assets in March 2014; the current manufacturer site uses Open Range RV branding. A familiar badge does not establish that an older brochure or recall applies to the unit being sold.

A dated model sheet is more useful than a badge

The 2026 Open Range 20MB sheet gives 4,315 lb UVW, 530 lb dry hitch weight, 1,685 lb CCC and 6,000 lb GVWR. Its overall length is 24 ft 6 in, exterior width eight feet and fresh capacity 42 gallons. Compare those figures with the actual unit’s labels and equipment.

At 8.34 lb per gallon, 42 gallons add about 350 lb. In a worked packing example, 350 lb water plus 500 lb of other additions counted against CCC use 850 lb, leaving 835 lb of the published 1,685 lb allowance. The truck still needs its own payload and hitch-load check.

Identify service and history separately

The manufacturer’s history records the March 2014 asset purchase and its place within the Jayco family. That is a company date, not the first registration or warranty start of an individual RV. Obtain the original purchase and repair records for a used unit.

The manufacturer’s owner-group directory can help locate model-specific discussions. Ask a question with the year, floorplan and photographs. Do not treat one water-pump location or owner modification as a specification for all Open Range or Mesa Ridge trailers.

Check recalls through NHTSA using the VIN and retain completion records. Match identification despite changes in the brand name, and verify the repair status.

Check what changed between two Open Range listings

Record the floorplan, production year, fitted options and loading basis for each candidate. The 20MB’s published dry hitch figure cannot predict what a different owner’s packed trailer will place on the truck.

Keep water and equipment additions in the carrying calculation, then measure the actual tongue demand separately. A Mesa Ridge listing may use familiar Open Range language while describing a different configuration.

The original documents and a loaded weighing resolve that difference more reliably than matching badges or furniture photographs.
