Kwikee Revolution step controls and fault checks
Kwikee Revolution step behavior depends on the door, ignition and step switch together. CCD-0001632 describes current-sensing shutdown, ignition override and auto-extend for the specified controller. Record all three control states before treating unexpected movement as a failed motor; keep clear of the step’s automatic movement path.
Confirm the manual applies to your step
Lippert’s June 2025 Revolution manual says its information derives from manual 3010002262 Rev 0A and excludes previous Kwikee step versions. Similar-looking steps can use different control behavior. Match the labels before using a wiring diagram.
| Situation | Documented response |
|---|---|
| Ignition on and door closed | Ignition override retracts the step |
| Ignition on and door opened | Step follows the door despite override-switch setting |
| First door opening after ignition off | Auto-extend can deploy the step even with the switch off |
| Tread reaches a stop or obstruction | Higher motor current causes controller shutdown |
Separate supply symptoms from control logic
The manual puts battery condition and ground integrity early in erratic-operation diagnosis. Its approximate 12.6-volt no-load battery example is not a capacity test or a lithium state-of-charge table. A battery indication alone cannot establish voltage at the step during movement.
For direct operation from a converter, the specified manual calls for at least 30 amps and clean DC. That is an equipment-supply requirement, not a claim that the step continuously consumes that current. Do not size protection or wiring from a guessed steady draw.
Leave connector and motor tests to equipped service
The manual contains powered connector and motor tests. They can move the tread unexpectedly and are not an invitation to jumper wires while reaching under it. A qualified technician should follow the entire procedure with the vehicle supported as specified.
Do not cut an unidentified wire to imitate a different installation. The covered manual restricts tapping the step wiring for unrelated accessories. A modification can affect the control’s protective and interlock functions.
Describe an example before replacing a part
If the step extends when the door first opens after ignition shutdown, the documented auto-extend function may explain that event. If it also grinds or stops crooked, that movement fault still needs investigation. A correct control response does not establish that the mechanism is undamaged.
Use only the matching maintenance and lubrication instructions. Do not assume a lubricant recommended for another exposed mechanism is suitable. Before moving the coach, confirm the actual step has retracted; before stepping out, confirm full extension.
The general entry-step guide helps identify the symptom when the model is unknown. Preserve a short video taken from outside the travel area if it will help the repair provider reproduce the fault.
