Coachmen fifth wheels and Adrenaline loading
Coachmen Chaparral and Brookstone are fifth-wheel families; Adrenaline uses a travel-trailer coupling and adds a garage. Compare loaded pin demand for the fifth wheels and loaded tongue demand for the Adrenaline. A garage’s floor area or an unloaded hitch figure cannot establish the truck payload required.
Brookstone storage space and carrying allowance differ
| Plan | UVW | Carrying allowance | Unloaded hitch |
|---|---|---|---|
| 290RL | 11,472 lb | 3,028 lb | 2,466 lb |
| 395DBL | 13,941 lb | 1,059 lb | 2,430 lb |
| 398MBL | 13,155 lb | 2,345 lb | 2,239 lb |
The manufacturer’s Brookstone table gives the 395DBL a 42 ft 10 in exterior length but only 1,059 lb published carrying allowance. By comparison, the shorter 36 ft 4 in 290RL lists 3,028 lb. More living space can leave less room by weight for belongings.
For a worked loading example, assume a 395DBL’s actual label confirms that 1,059 lb allowance and the added water weighs 500 lb. Another 300 lb of supplies would leave 259 lb before other additions. Those assumed loads are an illustration; weigh the unit and use the water quantity you will carry.
Used Chaparral and Brookstone: verify tank-support repairs
NHTSA campaign 22 V-813 covers certain 2019–2022 Chaparral/Chaparral Lite, 2020–2021 Brookstone and 2020–2021 Shasta Phoenix fifth wheels. A floating cross-member may not fully support a holding tank; a tank dislodging in transit creates a crash risk.
The remedy calls for inspection and relocation of an inadequately positioned cross-member. Check the VIN and repair record; the campaign does not establish that every model-year unit is affected. Phoenix branding does not prove a used trailer shares another plan’s installed ratings.
For Adrenaline, obtain the garage floor, ramp and tie-down limits for the actual model. Deduct water, equipment and other additions from its own carrying allowance before adding toys. Do not transfer the Brookstone figures to a toy hauler.
