Airstream trailer lines and weights
Airstream’s compact single-axle trailers and larger touring trailers make different demands on payload and campsite space. Compare the actual floorplan’s weight allowance before choosing by length. A small Bambi can have little room for cargo; an owner-loaded Flying Cloud can put substantially more load on the hitch than an unloaded brochure figure suggests.
Which trailer family fits the trip?
Bambi and Caravel serve compact conventional-trailer layouts. Basecamp emphasizes a different compact interior and utility layout; Trade Wind emphasizes off-grid equipment.
Flying Cloud offers a broader layout choice, while International, Globetrotter and Classic occupy other equipment and interior tiers. Compare the specific floorplans and equipment lists before choosing among those names.
Bambi: a small shell can leave a small load allowance
| Floorplan | Base weight, LP and batteries included | GVWR | Published hitch | NCC |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 16RB | 3,150 lb | 3,500 lb | 475 lb | 350 lb |
| 20FB | 3,900 lb | 5,000 lb | 625 lb | 1,100 lb |
| 22FB | 3,850 lb | 5,000 lb | 525 lb | 1,150 lb |
The 2026 Bambi brochure gives each plan a 23-gallon fresh tank. At 8.34 lb per gallon, full water weighs about 192 lb. On the 16RB, that leaves about 158 lb of its published 350 lb NCC for other added load; LP and batteries are already included in this brochure’s base weight.
Flying Cloud: use an owner-loaded hitch figure
In a 23FBT owner discussion, a 2023 owner reported 645 lb on the tongue with full fresh water. This is one loaded configuration, not a rating for the line. Against a hypothetical 1,500 lb truck payload, it leaves 855 lb before subtracting hitch hardware, people and truck cargo.
A used 2025 Flying Cloud 25FB listing, stock UT770535 advertised $95,995 in the indexed example examined October 18, 2026. Compare a current written total and condition report; an asking price does not establish a sale value.
Basecamp recall applicability
23 V-614 covers certain 2021–2023 16- and 20-foot Basecamps built without air conditioning. A wire intended for a future installation was incorrectly terminated, creating a shock hazard.
The stated remedy removes the wire from the breaker and converter. Check the VIN and repair record.
