RV cargo calculator: count each added load once

Enter a documented starting vehicle weight and add only the loads absent from it. The result estimates remaining GVWR capacity before other unentered belongings. It cannot replace loaded axle and tire measurements or interpret an unidentified cargo label for you.

Use the actual documented value for the intended operating conditions.

Document what this weight includes. Add only items absent from it; do not enter a remaining-capacity label as a vehicle weight.

US gallons added beyond the starting weight. Do not recount water later moved into a waste tank.

Enter zero when this water is already in the starting weight or is not carried.

Enter zero for propane already included in the documented starting weight.

Whole number of batteries absent from the starting weight.

Actual weight per added battery from its product data or measurement.

Whole number of occupants whose weight is not already in the starting vehicle weight.

Use the actual total divided by the count;160 lb is only an editable default.

Added equipment absent from the starting weight; do not recount batteries entered separately.

Only additional waste contents not otherwise counted. Uses a water-density approximation.

JavaScript calculates the remaining cargo allowance on this device. When scripts are unavailable, the form requests a results page using the same weights and liquid quantities.

A modern cargo label is not the older sleeping-position formula

FMVSS110 distinguishes occupant/cargo information and RV water treatment, and specifically includes full propane in a motorhome’s unloaded weight where equipped. Read the applicable label and vehicle documentation instead of subtracting full propane or a 154-lb sleeping allowance from every RV again.

The tool starts from GVWR minus your entered weight. If you already have a remaining-capacity number, do not enter that number as vehicle weight. A scale measurement also needs its loading conditions recorded: factory-installed equipment, water, fuel and occupants may already be aboard.

Worked packing case with stated starting conditions

Assume GVWR7600 lb, starting weight 6100 lb excluding 50 US gal added water, 40 lb additional propane and two 62-lb batteries. Added loads total 417+40+124=581 lb using this tool’s 8.34-lb/US gal water constant. Remaining capacity is 919 lb before other cargo.

Assumed 581 lb additionsWater: 417 lb; Propane: 40 lb; Batteries: 124 lbAssumed 581 lb additionsWater: 417 lbPropane: 40 lbBatteries: 124 lb

USGS gives a rounded8.33 lb/US gal water figure; the calculator uses 8.34 as its stated approximation. Waste contents can have a different density. Moving the same water from fresh storage to waste storage does not add it again.

Interpret the empty-water comparison literally

The alternate result omits all fresh and heater water entered in this calculation. It does not promise that draining a fresh tank alone removes heater water too. Follow the actual coach instructions for tank travel and appliance operation.

The form calculates on the device when its script works. With scripting unavailable, it posts inputs to this site’s server for the same result; do not enter identifying information. See privacy and weigh an RV on travel-ready scale passes before relying on a remaining allowance.
