WFCO WF-8700:P-series fuses, fan and charging checks
Read the WFCO power center’s full model before applying a charging or fuse instruction. This page concerns the linked WF-8712P, 8725P, 8735P and 8740P manual. A newer Auto-Detect model or an owner’s WF-8955 complaint can have different hardware and instructions; distinguish its DC and AC supply branches.
The two 30-A fuses are not the same as circuit 6
The P-series operator manual lists reverse-polarity protection as 15 A on 8712P, 30 A on 8725P, 40 A on 8735P and two 30-A fuses on 8740P. Separately, the 8740P battery circuit is circuit 6 with a 30-A fuse. Do not collapse those separate entries into one replacement instruction.
| WF-8740P item | Manual entry |
|---|---|
| Reverse-polarity protection | Two 30-A fuses |
| Battery circuit | Circuit 6,30 A |
| AC main | 30 A maximum; approved breaker types |
| AC branches | 20 A maximum; approved breaker types |
Two 30-A protective devices do not establish an owner-usable 60-A branch circuit. Replace only the exact specified type and rating after safe isolation. Repeated fuse failure requires fault diagnosis rather than another fuse or a larger value.
Fan operation can follow current rather than temperature
The P-series manual describes a load-controlled fan and identifies 8712P as having no fan. It also states that the converter can operate without a battery. Working lights therefore do not prove the battery is connected or charging.
The Airstream owner thread concerns aWF-8955-AD-J-WAGO, with a reported fan starting above an observed 0.48-A load. Replies dispute the owner’s thermostat diagnosis. That is another model and an individual observation, not a universal WF-8700 fan threshold or confirmed replacement rule.
Voltage testing has controlled conditions
The P-series manual’s no-load output check expects 13.6 V within 0.2 V under its stated supply and battery-disconnection conditions. An isolated reading outside those conditions does not condemn the converter. Have qualified service manage the live measurements and all charging sources.
A normal no-load reading also cannot prove capacity under load or a healthy cable to the battery. Record whether the symptom is noDC output, low output, or no battery charging; those observations lead to different checks.
A lithium conversion needs the actual revision
WFCO’s support resources separate charging explanations and Auto-Detect guidance. Do not describe every WFCO converter as having identical three-stage behavior or assume an old P-series unit acquires a lithium profile from a battery change.
Compare the exact battery requirements with documented converter capability. Continue with power-path selection and protective-device checks before ordering a complete power center.
