RV stabilizers and slide supports: permitted loads
Use stabilizers and slide-room supports only for the functions and mounting arrangements approved by the coach and equipment makers. A stabilizer’s load rating does not authorize lifting an RV. Do not add a post beneath a sagging slide or apply a generic slide capacity to an unidentified room.
A 10,000-lb pair is not permission to lift a 10,000-lb RV
The etrailer LC285326 listing identifies two Lippert scissor stabilizers rated 5,000 lb each, or 10,000 lb combined. Its explicit note says they stabilize a portion of the trailer’s weight and must not lift the RV or support its full GVWR.
| Listing figure | What it does not establish |
|---|---|
| 5,000 lb per jack | An approved wheel-lifting point or tire-change support |
| 10,000 lb combined | Permission to suspend the entire trailer |
| 24-inch lift description | A safe operating position on every surface or installation |
The same listing showed an asking price of $151.87 when checked October 18, 2026, before any applicable tax or shipping. Compare the exact kit and installation requirements, not a generic per-jack price. A stronger rating cannot repair a weak mounting location.
There is no verified universal slide-room payload
A room’s permissible load depends on the coach structure, mechanism and distribution of contents. Do not use an internet range such as 600–1500 lb as the rating of your room. Obtain the actual coach instruction or written manufacturer guidance before adding unusual loads or support accessories.
A post can change forces on the room as the coach settles or a tire loses pressure. Use a slide support only when the exact coach and system instructions permit it, in the stated position and manner. It is not a substitute for correcting misalignment or structural damage.
Do not impose one setup sequence on every coach
Newmar’s 2021 instruction describes checking slide clearances at ride height, extending under the specified conditions and then deploying leveling jacks. That differs from an all-RVs level-first rule. Use the instructions posted in the actual coach.
Keep people clear during operation and confirm equipment is secured before moving. For an uneven or stalled room, identify the mechanism through the Lippert support library or its actual maker; do not improvise a lift or adjustment.
Continue with slide and awning operation before changing accessories or the departure routine.
