RV laundry: vented combos, load size and installation
A combination RV washer-dryer can be vented or ventless. Choose from the exact appliance’s installation and dry-load requirements, rather than assuming one drum means no outside vent. Verify water, drain, electrical supply and the coach structure before ordering a machine for a prepared closet.
A documented vented combination disproves the blanket rule
Splendide’s WDV2200XCD is a vented combination machine with 15-lb maximum wash and 11-lb maximum dry capacity. A 15-lb wash load exceeds its stated dry limit by 4 lb: remove that amount before a single permitted drying load, rather than expecting the full wash load to dry within its rating.
The manufacturer’s download list separately identifies vented and ventless combinations and standalone units. Determine which exact model the coach accepts. A cabinet labeled washer/dryer prep does not establish that a vent path, drain or approved circuit suits every appliance.
Unit weight is not the floor-support requirement
The WDV2200XCD data sheet lists 148-lb unit weight but requires a floor supporting at least 280 lb. It also specifies 120 V, 11 A, 1,300 W maximum absorbed power and a separate 15-A circuit. The unit weight alone understates the support requirement by 132 lb.
| Item | Evidence needed |
|---|---|
| Structure and restraint | Actual coach approval and appliance mounting/support instructions |
| Dryer ventilation | Exact vent routing, clearances and external termination |
| Water and drain | Permitted pressure, hose arrangement and drain height |
| Electrical supply | Required dedicated circuit and simultaneous coach loads |
Do not replace the electrical requirement with 1,300 ÷ 120 alone. Manufacturer input ratings and circuit requirements serve different purposes. Other appliances sharing shore power still affect the whole-coach budget, even when laundry has a dedicated branch circuit.
Cycle water and drying depend on the actual model
Do not assume all ventless machines add moisture directly to the interior or use the same amount of cooling water. Use the exact cycle and installation documents to estimate fresh-water and gray-tank demand. A generic gallons-per-load figure cannot establish how many loads fit your tank.
For a dishwasher, verify its specified supply, drain and secure mounting separately. A countertop unit is not automatically safe draining to an open bucket in a moving or unattended coach.
A drain fault needs its model’s access and safety procedure
Use the WDV2200XCD operating instructions for approved cleaning, draining and winterization. Isolate the appliance and manage retained hot water before permitted maintenance. Do not open an unidentified pump filter or keep restarting a machine into a full or obstructed drain.
Use shore-power load planning and fresh, gray and black water tanks to decide whether onboard laundry fits the trip. Correcting a drain, vent or electrical installation may require qualified service rather than an appliance replacement.
