RV remodeling: net weight, floor fit and bed dimensions

Budget a remodel by the net weight added to the loaded RV and the actual fit of every replacement. Verify the vehicle, axle, tire and installed mechanism limits. “Waterproof” flooring and “RV queen” labels do not establish structural suitability, slide clearance or a safe remaining cargo allowance.

Calculate net weight rather than purchased cartons

Assume removed flooring weighs 80 lb, replacement material installed weighs 150 lb, and trim and adhesive add 20 lb. The net change is 150 + 20 − 80 = 90 lb. If a verified loaded configuration had 400 lb of remaining vehicle-rating margin, that becomes 310 lb before any other change; axle or tire limits may be reached earlier.

Use actual product mass and measured removed material for a real project. Packaging and unused offcuts are not installed cargo, while adhesive, fasteners and new cabinetry still count. Reweigh the finished RV and check distribution rather than subtracting from a generic “typical trailer” allowance.

One flooring name can conceal different thickness

Shaw’s published Valore sheet lists Valore 0545V at 5.5 mm and Valore Plus 2545V at 7 mm, each with 23.64 square feet per carton. The 1.5-mm difference can matter at a slide or threshold. These published building-product dimensions do not establish approval for an RV installation.

For an assumed 120-square-foot coverage area, five 23.64-square-foot cartons cover only 118.2 square feet, leaving 1.8 square feet uncovered even before cutting waste. Six cartons provide 141.84 square feet of material, but the ordering quantity still needs the actual layout and waste allowance.

Measure a bed rather than trusting its label

Camping World’s mattress guide lists a short queen at 60 by 75 inches, compared with a 60-by-80-inch queen. That extra 5 inches can obstruct an aisle or closing slide. Measure the platform, corners, access route and closed-travel arrangement; do not infer mattress weight from its size name.

Separate cosmetic work from structural and safety changes

Locate wiring, plumbing, supports and required exits before cutting or drilling. Resolve wet or damaged backing before covering it. Seat-belt anchorage, structural walls, gas appliances and electrical changes need the applicable manufacturer and qualified service requirements.

Compare quotes by the same removal, repair, installation and finishing scope. Product prices alone do not establish a complete bathroom or floor renovation cost, and no universal completion time applies to concealed water damage.
