Coleman-Mach 8000 care: filters, icing and restart
For a Coleman-Mach 8000-series installation covered by guide 1971 AA982, maintain the filters, observe the restart delay and use the correct ceiling-control instructions. Identify both rooftop unit and plenum before applying this older series guide to installed equipment; match the installed air-distribution assembly as well.
Filter care and restart are different intervals
Airxcel’s 8000-series operation and maintenance guide, revision 9-06, recommends cleaning or changing filters at least every two weeks of operation. It warns against extended operation without a filter and gives a two-to-three-minute wait after switching off before restarting.
| Situation | Instruction in this guide |
|---|---|
| Continued use | Filter service at least every two weeks |
| After switching off | Leave off two to three minutes before restarting |
| Icing | Defrost on high fan until airflow returns |
| Nighttime outdoor temperature below 75°F | Use the specified midpoint thermostat setting |
| Persistent abnormal operation | Have the supply checked by a qualified technician |
For an assumed shutdown at 2:00 p.m., a full three-minute wait ends at 2:03. That wait addresses restart timing; it does not authorize restarting equipment with a burning smell, repeated trip or other unresolved fault.
A temperature difference is not a room-temperature promise
The guide describes return-to-discharge cooling of about 15–20°F depending on temperature and humidity. With an assumed 82°F return, subtraction gives 62–67°F discharge. That arithmetic describes an air-stream difference, not a guarantee that the whole RV will reach 62°F.
Heat gain from sun, windows, insulation, outside conditions and occupants affects room temperature. Compare the installed equipment’s specifications and measured conditions before concluding the compressor has failed.
Use the installed labels for electrical work
The guide describes 115-VAC, 60-Hz, single-phase equipment and a qualified technician’s supply checks. Read the actual unit and installation requirements for circuit protection, conductors, supply and control compatibility. Do not turn its general wire-length example into permission to use an arbitrary extension cord.
Keep owner work within the applicable cleaning instructions. Electrical compartments, refrigerant service and persistent faults need qualified service. The optional electric heating assembly in this guide is supplemental comfort heat rather than a substitute for the furnace.
