Class B camper van care: chassis and coach

A Class B camper van needs the chassis maker’s service schedule and the conversion builder’s installed-component instructions. Identify both by year and model. Do not assume a compact van needs the same fluid intervals, battery care or winter preparation as another camper.

Use the correct source for each job

The 2026 Pleasure-Way Ontour 2.2 manual sends chassis maintenance to the Ford Transit manual. Its own instructions cover the conversion and installed equipment. That division prevents a general RV checklist from becoming an invented engine-service interval.

Specific monthly checks in one 2026 conversion

That Ontour manual calls for at least monthly GFCI testing under the receptacle maker’s instructions and monthly fire-extinguisher inspection. Do not substitute pressing a button on another device or a visual look at the outlet for the specified test.

It also recommends running the installed generator under load for at least half an hour monthly. Over three months that totals at least 90 minutes under that stated recommendation. It does not replace the generator’s oil or other hour/calendar service limits.

Water uses payload even in a small camper

The archived 2026 Ontour brochure lists approximately 28 US gallons of fresh water for the 2.2 in its comparison table. Using the federal label convention of 8.3 lb per gallon gives 232.4 lb. That is water weight before travelers and other applicable cargo.

Use the actual van’s load label and travel-ready scale weights. Do not count fuel or propane twice when already included in the relevant labeled weight. Check axles as well as the overall vehicle limit.

Storage and freeze protection need the installed arrangement

Follow the actual water-heater, pump, toilet and plumbing winterization instructions. A warm living space does not establish that every exterior line or valve is protected. Inspect for moisture and leaks rather than assuming every damp area is condensation.
