RV roadside assistance: distance and destination
Check RV roadside assistance for the specific vehicle, destination rules, towing distance or dollar cap and dispatch procedure. “RV coverage” does not mean every plan will take any combination to the shop you choose. Compare the terms issued by your provider and home club.
Unlimited distance and destination choice are different benefits
Good Sam’s towing explanation describes towing to the nearest service center regardless of distance. AAA Mountain West’s RV page describes destination choice within its applicable plan mileage limits, including 100-mile Plus RV coverage in specified states.
| Provider example | Listed limit or destination | What remains to check |
|---|---|---|
| Good Sam | Nearest service center; no stated distance limit in its explanation | Eligible unit, suitable facility and member terms |
| AAA Mountain West specified Plus RV plans | Up to 100 miles per tow; destination choice | Home state, membership tier and service allowance |
| AAA New Mexico RV guide | Up to $500 per eligible call; $1,000 household annual total | Eligible services, remaining annual benefit and excess cost |
The AAA New Mexico member guide uses dollar limits for RV service. Do not apply a mileage description from another club to that benefit. A provider’s marketing page is not a substitute for your membership terms.
Calculate the uncovered portion before choosing
For an assumed $900 eligible tow under a $500 per-call benefit, at least $400 exceeds that cap, even before considering an annual limit already used. For a 140-mile tow under a 100-mile benefit, 40 miles exceed the distance allowance. These examples do not establish the charge per mile or the actual approved reimbursement.
Tell dispatch what needs to be moved
Provide the vehicle type, dimensions, location, trailer or towed vehicle and the known problem. Ask how the complete combination will be handled. Tire service may require a usable spare or an additional purchase; labor, tire cost and repair work are different charges.
Check authorization before arranging a private tow and expecting reimbursement. Ask separately about recovery, off-road exclusions, battery service, fuel delivery and trip-interruption expenses. Roadside dispatch does not automatically pay the workshop’s repair bill.
